Jennifer Frank Tantia, PhD, BC-DMT, LCAT is a somatic psychotherapist in private practice and licensed in New York State. A former professional dancer and aerial artist, Jennifer has researched and practiced the psychological implications of embodied awareness for over twenty years. Noting the obvious interaction between body and mind in dance and psychology, Jennifer furthered her education in mental health and attained a Master’s degree in Dance/Movement Therapy, followed by a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, specializing in Somatic Psychology.
As a somatic and movement psychotherapist, Jennifer has worked with many patients in settings such as: psychiatric units, geriatric residencies, day treatment programs and corporate environments and pioneered dance/movement therapy for treating patients in psychiatric emergency rooms in New York City. She has experience in treating individuals suffering from depression and anxiety, body image and eating disorders, psychosomatic disorders, HIV/AIDS, psychotic and bipolar disorders.
Jennifer’s background of psychology, physiology, creativity and neuroscience provides a fully embodied approach to psychotherapy. She currently treats a wide range of clients from those with PTSD, anxiety, depression, to those with relationship issues, and who want to gain greater insight to develop their physical, mental, embodied or spiritual potential.
Her latest edited book, The Art and Science of Embodied Research Design: Concepts, Methods, and Cases is now available via Routledge:
